Norwalk is an adjacent town to HAYVN where many of our members live. New to Fairfield County? Explore Norwalk with this handy directory of places of interest including historical sites, beaches, golf course, supermarkets, day care, schools, and some dog parks, and more.

A must see is a visit to the Victorian Era Lockwood-Matthew’s Mansion Museum, a National Historic Landmark with ever changing exhibits. This mansion is an example of Second Empire style of architecture.

Sharing the same driveway is the SoNo Stepping Stones Museum for Children with hands on educational fun play, good for the whole family.

Be sure to visit South Norwalk, or SoNo as it’s called, for its seaport appeal, delicious restaurants and Maritime Aquarium. Explore the aquarium’s 75 live exhibits, 2700 marine animals from 300 species. Fun for kids of all ages.

Train enthusiasts can explore the 1896 SoNo Switch Tower Museum and learn how large levers were manually moved to control and switch what track a train was on. You can see if you’re strong enough to move a lever – it’s not so easy. Known as Tower 44 these manual switches controlled track service between New Haven and New York City even as recently as 1984.

For an active day outdoors, visit Gallaher Mansion and Cranbury Park to play “Frisbee“ disc golf, or hike with your dog in the woods and paths there.

Want to play golf? Reserve a tee time at Oak Hills Park Golf Course, a beautiful public course with all the amenities.

Need a chocolate fix? Be sure to stop by Knipschildt Chocolatier to order the most expensive chocolate truffle in the world according to Forbes, or any other amazing scrumptious treats.

Food shopping has never been so much fun as it is at Stew Leonard’s – also helpful for easy to-go meals and groceries. Don’t miss the playful singing/dancing animatronics and seasonal animal farm where you can feed the animals.

Starting Spring 2021 is the Norwalk Art Space which will include a gallery and studio for artists, as well as classrooms and workspaces for students. It will be open to the public free of charge.
