Cultivating a Mindfulness Practice with Carrie Myers

Mindfulness meditation can have a powerful influence on the quality of one’s health and well-being. The benefits of cultivating a mindfulness practice have been shown to enhance awareness of everyday experiences, improve focus and emotional health as well as provide effective ways of coping with challenging aspects of life including chronic pain, stress, anxiety, grief, sleep difficulties and feelings of being “stuck”. In this four-week course, you will learn formal and informal mindfulness practices as well as maintaining mindfulness in everyday life.

Each week will build upon the previous and guidance will be provided to develop your own at-home practice. Make a commitment to self-care, learn and engage in regular practice, and watch what happens as you begin to live life more fully in each moment. No previous meditation experience is necessary, this course is appropriate for beginners as well as those wanting to deepen a current meditation practice.

Week 1 (November 14th): What is Mindfulness? Defining the “buzzword”. Introduction to mindfulness meditation, Awareness of Breath meditation, exploring anchor.

Week 2 (November 21st): Body Scan meditation, awareness of moment-to-moment physical sensations, Mindful eating.

Week 3 (December 5th): Mindful Movement and Walking Meditation.

Week 4 (December 12th): Some of the science behind mindfulness meditation, mindfulness in the workplace and maintaining a practice.

Cultivating a mindfulness practice is a way to take life off “hold” and begin living each moment with focus and intention.
