SUMMARY:The Summit Speaker Series: Michele Litt\, Volunteer to Professional
DESCRIPTION:Come Hear How Michele Found a Renewed Professional Path After 25 Years as a Mother and Full-Time Volunteer\n  \nBefore returning to the workforce\, on top of being a mother to my two biological children and one adopted child from Nigeria\, I was using my skills in a variety of unpaid non-profit roles. My passion has been helping organizations and individuals make a difference in the lives of others; particularly those less fortunate. What prompted me to return to the workforce is that on some levels\, due to the work I was doing and the time I spent doing it\, it felt like I really hadn’t left. \nMy title is Director of Impact Philanthropy and for the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County. I think of myself as a strategic thinker\, fundraiser\, and connector. I work with a team of entrepreneurial and passionate professionals who think creatively to solve the problems that exist in Fairfield County. Our impact work is centered around working collectively with members of the community\, governments and businesses to knock down the barriers to opportunity.  \nMy life has changed in a number of ways since returning to work. First\, I have had to learn to juggle family\, work as well as on-boarding in a remote environment. And second\, I am learning and meeting people who are passionate and changing lives in a myriad of ways on the grassroots level. I am listening and growing and hopefully helping to make a difference.  \n– Michele Litt \n\n  \n  \n\nFacilitator: \nSheilah Crowley is a coach specifically to women asking the question\, “What’s next for me?” She holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Vermont\, coaching certification from NYU\, career counseling certification from GetFive Outplacement and is ICF Certified. Sheilah spent the first part of her career working in non-profit management at City Harvest\, the first and largest food rescue organization in the country based in New York City. She’s looking forward to resuming her volunteering role as a prep chef at her local soup kitchen in Park Slope\, Brooklyn\, NY\, where she lives with her husband and two children. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n ADMISSION: FREE\n \n REGISTER NOW\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CAN’T MAKE THIS EVENT?   \nGet on our email list for future event notifications\n \n \n \n \n \n CURIOUS ABOUT HAYVN?  \nBook a tour \n \n \n \n \n \n WANT TO SEE MORE?   \nView our full event calendar

SUMMARY:The Summit Speakers Series: Authors Sarah Balsley & Hilary Richards
DESCRIPTION:Speaker Series hosted by The Summit \n  \nIn the world of making a personal or professional change\, it’s through the lens and stories from women doing the same\, that matters. This series is designed to honor how we are all a work in progress. These stories will be about how each speaker found her agency to take action on her behalf. Bumps and all. The Series will take you on each of their journey’s…in their own words. \n  \n\nCome Hear How Two Friends Made the Leap to Public Authors – Together\n  \nHere are some excerpts:\n  \n[We had a] Deep need to claim and develop our identities as artists\, and desire to build futures beyond mothering. \n  \nWriting for the sake of writing is a beautiful thing. That’s where the poetry and beauty lie. But there came a point\, for both of us\, where we respected each other’s work enough to say “this must be shared” or “you are saying something so universal\, so poignant\, it must be seen”. To that end\, we kind of egged each other on.  \n  \nNow\, we get up and “go to work\,” we get to our desks and write and meet every day. This is a big sea change in our lives. \n  \nWe built websites and share the work on social media. The “like and comment” element of social is new and odd. We have also had to contend with embarking during a very tense and difficult time\, so we have had to be tender with our work and to consider its impact in a way we may not have had to do in another time. \n  \nThe structure of our weeks now has publishing built into it. We hold each other accountable – to force the consistent schedule of write\, edit\, publish\, repeat. \n  \n\n\nYou will be forwarded an access link prior to the start of the event. \n  \nBy registering for this event you will be added to the Summit mailing list for future opportunities to connect. \n  \n\n\nFacilitator: \nSheilah Crowley is a coach specifically to women asking the question\, \n“What’s next for me?” \nShe holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Vermont\, coaching certification from NYU\, career counseling certification from GetFive Outplacement and is ICF Certified. \nSheilah spent the first part of her career working in non-profit management at City Harvest\, the first and largest food rescue organization in the country based in New York City. \nShe’s looking forward to resuming her volunteering role as a prep chef at her local soup kitchen in Park Slope\, Brooklyn\, NY\, where she lives with her husband and two children. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n ADMISSION: FREE\n \n REGISTER NOW\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CAN’T MAKE THIS EVENT?   \nGet on our email list for future event notifications\n \n \n \n \n \n CURIOUS ABOUT HAYVN?  \nBook a tour \n \n \n \n \n \n WANT TO SEE MORE?   \nView our full event calendar
